Decided to just answer every single question of the book meme I posted an entry back. I'll leave that up so that the questions are there for people if they want it. I've put the majority of questions under a cut because this is LONG, people. There's 50 questions. So, get a cup of tea and let's get started!

1. What is your favourite book and/or book series of all time? This is actually a really hard question to answer because so many come to mind at once. Uh. I guess if I had to pick just one, I'd go with Good Omens, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. No matter how many times I read that, I always find something new to laugh at, something new to amaze me, and just always have the same level of enjoyment in reading the story.

Yeah, not exactly sure why I went with that title other than the fact I had my Mum asking me what I would like and I had to explicitly state that I did not want a new laptop. Now, the thing I have been looking at laptops lately, just because I like knowing what's out there, and having a rough idea of what I would go for if I had too. When Mum knows I've been doing stuff like that - no matter what it is - and it's near my birthday or Christmas? Yeah, she tends to go and buy it for me. And I love her to pieces, I really, really do, but she doesn't need to do that ><.

Mind you, I don't actually know what I would like for my birthday, other than to maybe go to a bookstore for a while and just look at books. Don't really have a bookstore at my local town centre, and the selection in the local supermarkets is not the greatest in the world. Except for that rare occasion they actually get something good in, but please note the words 'rare occasion'. I guess some new action figures would be cool, but the 'rents are not exactly happy about the prices you need to pay to get a decent figure. Hell, I'm not happy about the prices you need to pay to get a decent figure. But I am a plastic addict, so I pay them, and now I have an adorable little Figma Sakura Kinomoto standing on the shelf with the other Japanese imported figures. (Superheroes stand elsewhere, but I'm going to change up the layout soon I think. And take cute pictures, if I can.)

I don't know if it's because I'm getting older or because I've spent the past few years on meds, but I'm kind just of 'meh' about the idea of my birthday in general. I know it's coming, and don't get me wrong, there's still that bit of me that's always a young child ridiculously excited about it, but yeah... my general reaction has just sort of been 'meh'. So... I don't know, maybe I'll ask my psychiatrist about it. If he actually shows up to the next appointment. He left before the last one. It's a thing, we've complained and are awaiting an apology. I don't think we'll get it.

SDCC has been interesting for trailer releases the past couple of days. I'm still in the "hm" zone for Dawn of Justice, but find myself pleasantly surprised for Suicide Squad and Deadpool. The former is a surprise, the latter isn't. Because I was just excited they were actually going to make his movie, and then I found out it'd be R-rated (though I'm not sure what the UK rating will be) and it was just a moment of "yessss."

Speaking of conventions, I really need to get my Susan Sto Helit cosplay finished... I was gonna use it for Film and Comic Con Glasgow, but I can see it being pushed back for MCM Scotland...

So today was my long awaited trip to Glasgow Comic Con, and it was AWESOME. No, seriously, I'm not just saying that. I had one of the best times I've had in a long while, and you have no idea how ridiculously good it feels to be able to say that I didn't stop grinning the full day. The event started at 10am at The MacKintosh Church Arts & Heritage Centre, which is someplace I am just going to go back out to with my camera one day to take photos of.

On the shallow 'what swag did I get' note - a BUNCH of classic Spidey comics (I mean late 70s  Spidey ... heads up if you want a review), some Academy X trades, the delux edition of the first Batman and Robin trade, and the surprisingly brilliant Hero: 9 to 5 which I picked up purely on the fact that the concept made me laugh.

Oh, and I also got a sketch of the classic "The Beano" character  Dennis the Menace - done by artist Stephen White.

As to be expected for a Glasgow comic festival, there was a lot of indie and independant comic publishers there, and as is my norm, I managed to get into a friendly argument with a few artists about the way woman are drawn in comics, and how it really comes across as seedy explotiation even if the woman are written as the greatest of all shit-kickers. Now, to be fair, I also added that I think it's completely unfair that mne are also drawn to be perfect specimens, and thus lust objects in their own way, but I did manage to get a point across. WOMAN IN PLATED CHEST ARMOUR SHOULD NOT HAVE BREASTS THAT LOOK LIKE ORBS. For ... this is the 21st Century, women read as many comics as men, and as a female comic reader, I do not want to be wondering how the hell a character isn't in huge amounts of pain due to her irregularly drawn top-heavinss.

Having said all of that, there were some brilliant indie press stuff on sale, and it would be so temping to link to it all (particularly Team Girl Comics who are always a fun read) but I want to link to a pic by one in particular. It's by artist Claire J.C. Stewart, and you should all check out her site and bug her about comissions as she has this fantastic style that is really just brilliant to look at. Her strips usually come from conversations she has, hence the title of her self-published sketch book

Put a character or pairing from one of my fandoms in my ask and I'll make a mini-fanmix (3-5 songs) for them. I'll even make make cover art. Well, try to at least. My art skills are not great.

My fandoms: 10th Kingdom, 21 Jump Street, Addams Family, Alice, Alice in Wonderland, American Idiot, Becoming Human, Being Human, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, DC Comics, Digimon Adventure/02, Discworld, Disney, Doctor Who, Firefly, Game of Thrones, Glee, Harry Potter, Iron Man (film), Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, Les Misérables, Mahou Sentai Magiranger, Marvel Comics, Merlin, Mighty Boosh, Muppets, Musicals, Ouran High School Host Club, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Peter Pan, Power Rangers, Press Gang, Red Dwarf, Robin Hood [BBC], Sherlock, Spaced, Thor (film), True Blood, Wizard of Oz, WWE, Worst Witch, Young Dracula, Xena: Warrior Princess, Young Dracula

First of all, the news of a Blue Beetle on-going to come from the DC Reboot has ... caused  me to me very conflicted. I make no secret of the fact that I love those comics, but the problem is I don't necessarily think the reboot is going to be a good idea in any sense of the word and I was all prepared to boycott DC ... And then they annouce that we're going back to El Paso. *sigh* I am SO  conflicted. It doesn't help that a lot of the new designs and story summaries make it seem like we're right back in the 90s 'EXTREME era, and I cannot be arsed with that. Here's hoping that Blue Beetle, at least, will remain the sweet kid we know him as.

Have started Sinkenger and have gotten to episode 18 ... and it's only really with the introduction of Genta that this show is having an impression on me. Now, to make it clear - Gokaiger I loved from the first episode. Magiranger had me enchated by episode 4, but for this? ... Out of the 18 episodes I've watched, only 4 of them actually stick in mind. And ... I don't know why I'm having this issue. I quite like the characters, and the premise is interesting enough, I just seem to find it bloody boring. But, like I said, I've gotten to Genta and the show finally seems to be sinking in, so we'll see how we go from here

Gokaiger's 199 Heroes Battle movie came out yesterday and I am resigned to the fact that it'll be December before I see it. I really wish there was a way for Tokusatsu to be exported in a slightly more efficient way - though I adore and love Power Rangers to pieces I would love to be able to pick up some of these movies on dvd. Then again, I live in the UK and getting any type of non-UK produced media can be hard enough - and then the industries wonder why people are illegally downloading more. Actually, I'm referring more to this awesome looking action figure when I speak of this but the point stands for dvds and the like as well!

I've recently been listening to the soundtrack for Mozart, l'opera rock on youtube and I've fallen in love slighty, even though I can't understand a word. It's grand, it's theatrical, it's all in French ... it's just one of the many things I've looked at due to being bored and then fallen in love with as its stuck with me past the boredom. It happens a lot. I'm in luck with this one though, the cd/dvd is available via amazon. No idea if it has English subtitles, but I'll learn!

And lastly ... I got the results for the 2nd year of university in. I passed everything - and quite brilliantly for some modules. Bring on the 3rd year. (But please let my 21st before hand result in money so I can afford my third year)

The second year of my course at uni started back recently, and let me tell you, my Mondays are going to be the most hetic things ever. I basically have two sets of three hour blocks without breaks. It is not fun, it is very tiring. And by the time I drag myself home, I'm exhausted.

So, erm, yeah.

It all kicked off today. I came in from university (having to walk back two bus stops because the driver BLOODY IGNORED ME AND DROVE PAST MY STOP EVEN THOUGH I PRESSED THE BUTTON) quite happy because the copy of Batgirl #40 and Blue Beetle: Boundaries showed up today (I love ebay, it gives me bargain comics) and I was looking forward to just sitting reading them when I enter to ... well, basically chaos. Sylar was, well, encaged is the only way to describe it, with some dvd cases, with Trips, Shawn. Bobbin, Guido, Mazza, ... there were a surprisingly large number of guards. A lot of voices started talking to me at once

"My Lady!"

"Sylar did..."

"There was a lot of screaming..."

"Almost got found out by your mother..."

It got to be a lot of chatting at me.It was very confusing. "ALRIGHT!" I ended up yelling. "One of you, just the ONE please tell me what happened?" There was a lot of looking amongst themselves, apparently they all thought themselves the right person to tell me and didn't want to seem arrogant by putting themselves forward. Or something like that. I was very tired at this point, it was like four in the afternoon and I'd been up since six that morning.

"A race of people who all they can do is talk, and suddenly now is when you lose your voices?" Okay ... that voice was fairly new, and yet, so familiar to me.

... .... ....

(brb - the nine year old me is going into happy dance mode.)

(Seriously DCAU figures on a job lot on ebay ... have I mentioned how much I love that place?)

"The guy in black, Sylar I think he's called," Terry said, looking at me with a serious face. Terry, don't go all serious mode on me. It's not as fun. "He attacked Blue Beetle today." Wait. WHAT? "I showed up and stopped him, obviously, but he still..."

"Bring him to me, now."

And so Sylar was frogmarched along to me. I had kinda found Jaime by this point (he was hiding under my cover, muttering about how he's meant to be a hero, and how Ted Kord would have fought back, poor sweetheart) and I wasn't best pleased at Sylar. "Do you even have an explanation for this? I mean, it's come out of nowhere. Just gonna blame it on the hunger?" He didn't even try to stick up for himself. "Sy, I let you guys get away with a lot here, probably more than I should, but attacking Blue? Not on."

Annnnnd then there was a creepy sadistic grin. I had to get Trips and Shawn to get rid of him very quickly. (Those two are interesting; Jaime told me that one minute he saw them mucking around with the X-Box, and then when Sylar attacked him, they were there, pulling the guy off him and giving Sy a well deserved Smackdown. I asked if there was theme music - there was)

So, erm, yeah, there's a lot of people here crying for just. Aragorn got all King of Gondor-y and decreed that he should be the one to reside over the trail, being a King an' all. That annoyed the Doctors, who all began yelling over each other about how they should be the one to do it. Apart from Nine. He just went "bugger that" and wandered off... somewhere, I'm not quite sure /where/ but he'll turn up. Terry kinda stared at them all like they were something... okay, not going to continue that analogy but you get what I mean, and went over to talk to Jaime

(Yes, Claire was there 'comforting' him. No, I don't think it was a good idea, considering.)

"Hey man, sorry."

"Not your fault."

"Shoulda got there earlier. He woulda got there earlier."

"Yeah? The Blue Beetle before me wouldn't have let it happen."

"Living in people's shadows suck."

And there, dear people, a friendship began.

Sylar, however, did not like this glowing display of friendship, especially not when Claire kept snuggling up to Jaime (who, seriously, I don't think is interested in her - at the moment at least - but he's too nice to shove a girl away). He got a very dark look in his eyes. And... Hey, I just realised, I've no idea where the Master is, or what he got up to while all of this was going on.

... I'm a little more than worried you guys ...

werepuppyblack: (The Life of Action Figures)

Oh! Look at how awesome the Batgirl is! I've been wanting a Steph figure for ages, and I've got to admit, the new costume design works better for a figure than it does actual art work. ('Course, I still wanna know what the HELL IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO CASS! ANSWER ME BATWRITERS!!!)

"What's she getting so worked up about?" The Master, of course, dry tones as always.

"New Batman action figure pictures," Nine answered looking bored. It's to be expected, really, that out of all the Doctors, Nine's the one least likely to attack the Master straight off. I think it's cause, well, he's the only one really without a Master to spar with. Either that or he can't be bothered. "Which isn't helpful when she's supposed to be working on her presentation for tomorrow." Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hear you Nine, but... BATMAN FIGURES!!!

"...What's so special about a man who dresses up in a Bat suit?"

... ... ...

"Don't attack him. DO YOUR WORK." Nine yelled over at me. Okay, okay, I'm doing it. I've got 510 words outta 700 though, and that doesn't include footnotes! "Get it finished." Nine is a partypooper. Remind me why you're sitting over at my beside table while I do this? "Because you'll sit and watch one of your little shows instead of doing your work." Good point Time Lord Guy. ...What if I put on Doctor Who? Your season? "No," well that was a quick answer. "Do your work."

The presentation - "Crime is a major feature of everyday life." Discuss - is, as Nine said, meant for tomorrow. Which would be the last day of the induction week of university. Apparently I'm in again next week, but as of this writing, I've had nothing to tell me whether or not this little fact of life is true. I'll ... find out somehow.

Looking forward to starting uni properly actually, in that completely terrified out of my mind way. "Don't be scared, wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure." ... Why is it Luna always pops up to cheer me up? I swear - that girl is gonna turn out to be an empath. As well as being an Elf of Fairy. I really should look into getting a Galadriel. She would be great guidance for Luna.

Okay, just did a quick check of ebay, and there's a good baragain there. Might check this shop in town before doing anything though. It does all the LotR figures at good prices. And it is beside the back issue comic shop...

"Do. Your. Work!"

... Spoil my daydreaming fun, Nine.

"Fun later, finish the work"
