Crossover Buddies?

I woke up after 3 this morning, and I am unlikely to get back to sleep anytime soon as I broke into a minor panic attack. The correct medication has been taken but dear gods, I really wish this shit wouldn't happen. I mean, not much has happened lately. Well, apart from the Dad collapsing in the middle of Mass and having to be taken into A&E and he's home but we've still not got anything more than low blood pressure as a cause. The GP has referred him to a cardiologist, since he has had a heart attack before and she just wants to be on the safe side.

Don't think that had anything to do with me feeling all panicky this morning though. I do feel a bit tired now, not going to lie, and I may try to get a nap but I don't know how it will work or if it will work. I hope it does.

Force Friday has passed and there are so many new figures that I'd like to get. I've got a convention this month, however, so spending is a not happening thing until such times as it is over. With any luck, I'll find a couple of the ones I want at the conventions - I really want Jedi Master Luke and General Leia. Those are top of my list. There's meant to be a TLJ Forces of Destiny two-pack coming and... ngl I kind of hope it'll show up here. As it stands, for the Forces of Destiny stuff, any place near me has only really gotten Rey and Leia, though Jyn appears for order on some websites.

Yeah, for some reason we're only getting movie connected ones. The UK does not do well with getting all the merch, it's a thing.

Nothing else I can think of to say and my eyes are nipping as if to tell me to go sleep, so I'll go try and nap for another couple of hours.

The Young Avengers ...

Title isn't representative of anything other than the fact I've been re-listening to the American Idiot Musical cast recording again. Because I'm in a bit of a musicals mood and my preference always leans towards the rock musicals. Pus the arrangements in that are just awesome.

Life is ... quiet, mostly. Back pain is being a bitch and I wish I knew how to fix it but sadly I do not.

I'm just kind of finding myself in a bit of a creative rut. I want to write but nothing comes. I want to sew, nothing comes. I want to draw, and well you're getting the idea now. I also really want to vid make but there's nothing coming there either and it's just very annoying tbh.

... So long story short: not up to much. Wish I was.

Ah well.

Birthday Bears
Red Liquorice from brother boy and Paddington from the 'rents. May family knows me.

It was my birthday on Monday - thanks to those who gave birthday wishes. To be very honest, it was a very hard day, speaking in terms of my mental health. I was utterly miserable, and spent most of it crying. The parents and the brother boy, bless them, tried really hard but it was just one of those days. Ironically by the end of the day I was feeling better, but then it was time for me to go to sleep because the being miserable had exhausted me. Typical, really.

The week has been pretty quiet - last week I had to go and get a filling replaced. Today was Film and Comic Con Glasgow and that was fun. Bumped into a couple of my friends who ended up in the queue right behind me, so went round the whole con with them. We all agreed it felt smaller somehow. I know there was another convention on, but usually you get a lot of passers by coming in thanks to the Garrison - a group of professional cosplayers. Largely Star Wars related. Good people, all, I know a lot of them but it's always one of those things that I see them out of cosplay and my mind blanks. Actually, I don't think the Garrison was spread out as far as they usually do so that could help to explain some things... Eh.

I did cosplay - Wednesday Addams. Broadway version. (Well, mostly as an excuse for my short hair. I got it cut for the hot weather and it can't do braids right now, so I say it's the Broadway incarnation. Though that did lead to the general agreement of getting a crossbow for future uses of the cosplay.) First time ever, I ran into other Addams Family cosplayers - they were Gomez and Morticia. Was cool. Also got given a lovely gift from my friends.

Ohana Means Family

The porcelain of it is really pale though - that's the best of the pictures, the rest look really washed out or fuzzy. It is utterly adorable though, and I have no idea what to get them for their birthday in return. I've got time though, which is good.

Erm... not much else I can think of? Probably going to check out the American Death Note when it hits Netflix on the 25th. I'm genuinely curious. I also need to re-get the live action movies. I did have the DVDs but they stopped working so I got rid. Need to replace them.

Hope everyone's doing well!

Trying to tidy the bookcases and I'm just wondering how other people arrange theirs? For fiction it's always alphabetical by authors, comics alphabetical by title and art books are just... in order of size. Just now I'm curious as to how others do it and how it all looks.

The Grimm Squeaker

Today has been a bit of a day. I am currently feeling a lot of pain in my jaw/mouth area because I had to go and get a filling replaced this morning in an emergency appointment. That was... not a lot of fun, I'll be honest. I had to take some of my meds to make sure I didn't go into a panic attack in the middle of it all. I am very much not good with needles and since they needed to numb my mouth... well, you get the picture. Long story short, it's been a day. I'm really glad I've got the Galavant soundtrack, because that kept me sane. Attend the tale indeed.

Brother Boy decided to remind me that it's 10 days to my birthday and I am just very "..." about it all. It's like I'm not really looking forward to it? It just seems to be in the middle of appointments for most of my family and it's just a bit of a hassle. I have asked for something... pretty special off the parents and I am kind of kicking myself for doing it, because it was pricey and I should know better. Brother Boy told me he found a Charlie Bear he knew I was looking for at about £20 less than it should be. He's good at finding deals when he wants.

The immediate following Saturday is Glasgow Film and Comic Con (formerly Collectormania Glasgow) and I'm pulling out the Susan Sto Helit cosplay for it. The Grimm Squeaker shall be joining me on this one. I still need to book tickets for MCM but I really cannot be arsed right now. It's a lot to do with how severely my mood has dipped this year, so it makes the whole thing a bit up in the air. Will need to do it soon, on the door prices are ridiculous.

Apparently Bat Out of Hell: the Musical is getting a cast recording album. They took over the instagram for London Theatre and the first couple of stories were in the recording studios. I... actually really want that? I don't know when it'll be due out - I'm figuring in time for the show hitting Toronto - but it is something I want. For my issues with the show - plot, what plot - the vocals were not among them.

Erm... Can't really think what else to say. I'm tired, though. Probably go watch something till I can go to bed and be sure of sleeping more than a couple of hours.

Most Adorable Frog Princess

Okay, so this prompted by Mum just asking me if there's anywhere I'd like to go on my birthday, which is two weeks on Monday (14th August). Honestly? There really isn't? I mean, I have a voucher for some money off at the Disney Store, so it'd be nice to wander along and see if there's anything that catches my eye but apart from that... I think I'll end up just maybe watching DVDs. It's become a thing now, on my birthday. Just to marathon something.

But yeah, that made me go to the website, and then to Smyths and... this is just sort of things I might like to get list. It's kind of small.

- Shibajuku Girls (Yoe or Miki. I like their hair clips best.)
- Disney Store Mulan Classic doll (GREEN DRESS!)
- Marvel Legends Miles Morales
- Gorjuss Doll (not sure which because there's a few that catch my eye. Ladybird, Ruby, and Little Violet stand out)
- Wonder Woman: The Art and Making of the Film

Told you it wasn't a long list. (And yet, my Amazon lists are long...) Mulan is the most likely pick up, tbh. I really need to not be out money though, I've got a convention on the 19th and I never really know what I'll find at those. Probably the WW book, now I think on it. Hopefully maybe a Miles figure too; I have Sam and Kamala so I need the last of the Avengers-to-Champions. (Also Hasbro? Can we get a Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur two-pack please, I would love.)

Still really amused with people on tumblr calling Worst Witch a Harry Potter rip-off when... no, it's just that the first couple of Harry Potter books played on the same boarding school cliches that the Worst Witch books use all the way through.

Also? I got the cast recording for The Lightning Thief: a Percy Jackson Musical. It's good, people. Fully recommended. They actually understand the story, and I can see why Uncle Rick likes it. I can hope that they may release a video of it, since limited run but... yeah.

Catch you on the flip side.

Seeing my psychologist at half one, even though I can't seem to talk without coughing painfully. Not fun, guys, not gonna lie. I think it might be contributing to my overall low moods, if I'm being honest about it. Which means I make stupid posts because I cannot word properly. It's a big issue for me - the higher my anxiety, the harder it is for me to come up with the right words. It's like my brain freezes. Not the best thing for a writer.

Ended up rewatching the new series of The Worst Witch, and ah it's just so cute. Having some frowny moments over people on tumblr assuming it's a cheap Harry Potter knockoff. The book is 23 years older, and the first tv show came out in 98. Not to mention there's a lot of other stories in the magical school genre that could have influenced both, or either, or neither. It does happen.

Besides which, Cackles Academy has Miss Hardbroom, the most boss witch that ever taught. ...Yes, I have my bias!

(Side note to self - get your Mildred custom stompy boots already!)

Also Lyanna Mormont is Mildred Hubble.

Still, I need more media like that; light hearted and cute. Maybe I'll watch Little Witch Academia again...

Got to go for my appointment now. Hopefully all goes well.

Deleted posts from earlier.

I need to not write stuff when trying to deal with my meds clashing. Also when I'm in low mood because I can't really process properly. Still not doing too good there atm, but self awareness is kicking in so that's something.

Better updates will come.

... Here's the Bat Out of Hell: the Musical trailer

werepuppyblack: (We Will Rock You)

I meant to have this up last Wednesday but I have not been well. There's a bit of a bug going around and I just happened to catch it due to going from the very big heat of London during the day to being completely and utterly soaked when I walked out of the London Coliseum on Tuesday night. No, seriously, wasn't even out in the rain five minutes and my jacket had bent to the power of nature. Freaky.

(Bat Out of Hell: the Musical is ... interesting, as a side note. I'm planning on writing up a better thing for my blog to express my feelings clearer but a sum up? Hm... Music is great, staging is cool, Rock You brings the plot.)

See, now that I'm actually sitting down to write, I don't actually know what I want to say. London was great, and I managed to meet up with a few friends, which is always fantastic. My parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary and they had a nice time as well. I got reminded the other day that it was 4 weeks till my birthday and asked what I wanted. I ... have answered with something, but it remains to be seen if it is at all possible.

On the health side of things? I need to try to get my eating and sleeping back into better patterns. On the eating front, it's not that I'm not eating the right things, it's that... I'm not doing it in a regular enough matter for my metabolism to recognize it. At least, that's what my GP says. Sleeping is just a mess that I can't seem to fix as yet. I'm working on it though.

Fandom? While I'm excited that the new Doctor has been confirmed to be female, I have to admit my hype is stronger for the multi-Doctor Christmas Special. I'm a simple fan.

That's all I can think of right now. Checking in again later.
werepuppyblack: (We Will Rock You)
Tonight we're going to see Bat Out of Hell at the London Coliseum. It's one of the few theatres I've not been in so I'm looking forward to the experience. That is tonight though, today we're planning on having a wander around the British Library as it is literally two minutes from the hotel.

Most of the time down here has been really, really warm. Which wouldn't be too bad if there was some kind of breeze with it, but there's not. Forecast is apparently predicting rain today, but it said that for yesterday as well, and there wasn't any.

I've been able to meet up with a few friends while being down, which has been great. Its been a few years since I saw a few of them, but we do talk online all the time. It's just really nice to be able to see them in person. And get hugs. Because hugs.

Talking of seeing in person... I saw the new Steiff plush Paddington Bear in Selfridges yesterday. He's so adorable. Parents have suggested - since for Steiff the price is actually on the relatively inexpensive side - that I could possibly get him for my birthday next month. My parents are awesome peoples.

Home tomorrow. Enjoyed the holiday but I'll be glad to get back to my own bed.

Hope you're all doing well!

Yeah, I was able to steal five minutes of time to write a post. Honestly, not writing much today - just want to say that its been very warm. Also? Today is my parents 40th wedding anniversary. Go them!

Arcane Academy Fight (2/2)

Been a while since I updated. Problem is, I'm not really sure what to say half the time. Keeping an account of my daily battles with my mental health is a bit boring for everyone, really. I was lucky enough to get to go and see Wonder Woman for a second time, and that was just fun. I have the First World Problem of the merchandise for the movie being a bit thin on the ground in my distribution area, but I'm hoping that I might be able to find the Steve Trevor action figure to go with my Diana.

Going to London at the beginning of July. Well, the 6th till the 12th. Going down by train which is always a nice way to do it. Might not be as fast as the plane, but it's definitely a lot less hassle. We've got a decent deal for a hotel as well, and the train tickets were amazingly priced. (Seriously, I will never not be pleased when I think of the discount we got.) With everything that's going on in London at the moment, the Mum is a little worried about going down. I mean, not so much the marches and demonstrations outside Parliament, more the fact that the Tories are trying to make deals with the DUP. We have family in Northern Ireland and... let's just say we all had the exact same look of horror when we first heard about this.

The weather's been nice lately. Warm, but we're getting a breeze with it. We weren't at first and then it rained for like three days and now we have a breeze. Just got to keep an eye, the breeze makes you think it's not as hot as it is and that's not a good thing.

Um... nothing else new, really. I got Netflix so I've been watching a lot of old Mock the Week on that. Life's pretty boring, tbh. Hope everyone's doing well.

In a League of Her Own

It was awesome.

Please go see it.

EDIT, 13:34, 02/06/10: Okay, so I added a photo to make the post a bit more interesting to look at but I stand by what I said. This movie is brilliant and you really should go and see it so they realise that female superheroes have been in want for a while

(Yes, I realise the success of female-led action movies has helped to lead to this point, but if we want more female led superhero movies, Diana's box-office needs to be amazing. It's kind of like the Deadpool thing.)

(And yes, Deadpool would totally be on-side for Diana kicking his ass at the box office. She's that glorious.)

World Goth Day 2017

Quiet Reading
werepuppyblack: (books)
Girl in the Bright Blue Dress

On Saturday, my local town centre was part of this thing for the Edinburgh International Book Festival called ReImagination. The idea is to have smaller sort of book cons in towns across Scotland so that more people can get to book festival type things because it's not always feasible to get through to Edinburgh during the period the Book Festival is on.

It was pretty fun, I guess. I sat in on readings from children's authors - all mostly from the Kelpies publisher - and it was honestly a good laugh. Got talking to author Lari Don after it, and she's pretty cool. Ended up buying more books, and right now I'm looking across at my main bookshelves and they're a horrible mess. I really need to tidy it up... Not something I'm looking forward to doing

Mood wise, I'm pretty much the same? Not good, not terrible but really not good. I spend most of my time wanting to sleep but that's really gone to hell in a handbasket. Plus the weird and unsettling dreams are back and... yeah, not the best thing in the world.

Not long till I go to London - I go about the 6th July - so trying to save money up. It's a lot sooner than I thought and I still have Father's Day and Dad's birthday to get through before then. Here's hoping things work out pretty well.

Wonder Woman next week! Looking forward to it. We pre-booked tickets for opening day because both brother boy and Dad agreed that out of all superhero movies, this is the one we want to do well at the box office. Not really got much else to say apart from that. Really sleepy.

Hope you're all doing good!
werepuppyblack: (Batman Beyond vs Spider-Girl)
... I have no reason for the title other than the song coming into my head. That, and I received goodies in the mail that I had saved up for and am excited they are here and want to share them with you

First off: I need to apologise for the mess behind them. I've been re-organizing my figure display lately and I am still not happy with it. I've got a feeling a lot of them will end up back in their boxes for a while, while I work out what I want to do. Also, sorry for photo quality, I took it with my phone.

Anyway: yes! Pullip Fantastic Alice from the Regeneration series, and Isul Classical Mad Hatter. They're both really adorable and I never realised just how big the boxes for these dolls were. I think I may need to take the braid spray and wig comb to Isul's hair because it feels a bit tangled. It's also very big and makes him a little inclined to lean back. Alice;s is very easy in comparison, and just needed a quick comb through to be presentable.

My first Pullips! I am so excited, and somehow very unsurprised they ended up being related to a book I like. If I was going to chose any other to save up and get next, it'd likely be Anne Shirley. I don't know if I will, but it's a thought that's on the back-burner. For now, I'm just going to really enjoy having these two around and hopefully take some nice pictures.

Space Buddies

It... has not been the easiest of weeks.

Brother Boy's birthday went pretty well. We were in town all day, and then I slept all the next day and the day after that because I fully expended all my energy by trying to keep up and keep happy so Brother Boy would not complain of me 'ruining' things. He did like his gift - a pocket digital radio - but I had to go exchange it today because there were issues with the battery section of it. This is why we keep receipts, in case stuff goes wrong.

I have an appointment with my psychologist tomorrow and honestly my mood hasn't improved much since I saw her last. Maybe a little better, but not where I would have liked to be on my little graph thing. Yeah, I have a mood tracker app that graphs my moods for me. It's a thing. I am trying to do things that will improve my mood though. I got the Galavant: the Unreleased Collection and made a playlist of all the music in the correct order. That's been really fun to listen to. I also booked tickets for me, Dad, and Brother Boy to go see Wonder Woman the day it comes out in the cinema.

I am thinking that it might help if I get my bookshelves in order because tidy room can lead to a tidy mind, I just have no energy to get into actually doing that. I will. Soon. I hope. I'm also still selling stuff off to clear and make room in my room and just... yeah. Probably going to clear out some books that I haven't read in a long time and have no real desire to re-read. Maybe some comics too. I don't quite know yet.

Doctor Who is proving entertaining. I'm gleefully awaiting the multi-Master episode. It'll be the first time one has been done on the show. (Big Finish did a drama on it years ago, I'll need to see about getting it.)

Purchase wise... Got some books. The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan, Spellslinger by Sebstien de Castell, and How to be A Bawse by Lilly Singh. I'm reading the latter at the moment as I like her causal narrative style. Also got some new bedding made of jersey cotton which is so lovely and soft and makes me very happy. It's a plain light grey, but I like it and it's comfortable which is the most important thing. I'm looking at some Wonder Woman themed tops online because why not?

Actually, I managed to make enough from sales to order my very first Pullips! According to tracking they arrive tomorrow with any luck. I'm getting the Fantastic Alice Regeneration Series and the Isul Classical Mad Hatter. I am very pleased with both of these, and count myself immensely luck to have been able to afford the pair. They were eBay finds, and the seller was in the UK so that kept costs down.

Ideally I'd like to find the <a href="http://www.pulliphome.com/anne-shirley/>Anne Shirley Regeneration Series</a> but I think that one will be a bit out of my price range for a bit. Still, looking is no real issue. I'm just hoping this doesn't start a trend in me getting a lot of Pullips - my bank balance will not thank me for it, lol. Um... Only other interesting thing to note is that I'm slowly managing to eat meals again. Still having some issues with it, but we're getting there. Guess that's all for now.

May the Fourth

I suppose "Down Days" would be the more accurate title for this, but I am trying to be positive even if it's not what I really feel on a day to day basis. Which, as you might guess, is not very positive at all. I don't really know what's causing it, but I've been on a very strong down for at least a week, probably a bit longer. It's making me really, really tired but I'm too warm to nap for long and the weather getting better is not helping that. It's also made me get out of the habit of trying to do 10 minutes on the exercise bike each day because I simply don't have the energy to do it.

Brother Boy's birthday is on Thursday, and I have his gift in. Not sure if we'll go out or not on the day. At the moment, we're planning to, but Brother Boy has a strong history of changing his mind at the last minute, which is not always great. If he does want to stay in, I guess that's fine. I mean, it's his birthday, I can't be telling him what to do. I hope he likes what I've got him, he's been asking for this for a while so... yeah. Mind you, again with the mind changing thing. He doesn't mean to annoy anyone with it, it's just a thing he does. Not sure if we're getting him a cake or not. He likes really chocolate-y things, and I do not do so well with chocolate. Will work something out.

Decided to just answer every single question of the book meme I posted an entry back. I'll leave that up so that the questions are there for people if they want it. I've put the majority of questions under a cut because this is LONG, people. There's 50 questions. So, get a cup of tea and let's get started!

1. What is your favourite book and/or book series of all time? This is actually a really hard question to answer because so many come to mind at once. Uh. I guess if I had to pick just one, I'd go with Good Omens, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. No matter how many times I read that, I always find something new to laugh at, something new to amaze me, and just always have the same level of enjoyment in reading the story.
